High in the Himalayan foot hills, Durga Kumari travels through her village of Bagashwari in her green sari. “When husbands see me in this sari, they stop to ask me how their wives are doing and how their babies are doing,” she says. The green sari is the uniform of Nepal´s Female Community Health Volunteers in this Village Development Committee, women who organize mother´s group meetings every month and provide essential health care and health education to women of their respective wards (the smallest administrative unit). | Micronutrient Fortification of Cereal Flours at Water Mills in Rural Nepal |

In 2007, Micronutrient Initiative began working with village millers in rural Nepal to help them add essential vitamins and minerals to the cereal flour they produce. MI developed an innovative flour fortification device for the small traditional watermills in the Lalitpur district of Nepal. The device, which does not require electricity or significant additional workload, automatically adds correct doses of iron, folic acid, and vitamin A to grains being milled and is powered solely by gravity.
